1. Get in Early!

I love my sleep ins as much as anyone, but avoiding those large crowds is essential for peace of mind. Getting to attractions nice and early will also make it easier for taking nice pictures and getting those money shots.

2. Buy Ear Plugs and an Eye Mask

You’ll thank me later. There’s nothing worse than getting home after a long day of adventures and there’s a dog constantly barking as you’re trying to get to sleep. Or, there’s always that one person in a hostel that needs to turn the light on at 4:00AM to find their toothbrush.

3. Every City has a Free Walking Tour

If you’ve just arrived in a new city, then a Free Walking Tour is the best thing to do in order to get your bearings and find all the hip places to visit. You’re also likely to meet other minded people.

4. Backup Your Data

Nobody ever plans to lose their camera. It’s just something that happens. Thankfully, there’s plenty of tools out there that can help mitigate your loses, like Backblaze (free trial) – a simple program that will backup your data online and give you peace of mind.

5. Always Get Travel Insurance

There’s no point gambling on eternal good health. You will get sick or have an accident at some point and even though I love cutting expenses when I travel, travel insurance is not expendable. Without it, you may have to pay tens of thousands of dollars if you get sick, so don’t risk it.
